exhilarating journeys through nature and song
The Buckhorn Springs Spring Adventure
We're excited to confirm the first of our Adventures - The Buckhorn Springs Spring Adventure, to be held May 3- 5.
Buckhorn Springs is located in a beautiful hidden valley not far from where I live in Ashland, Oregon. The Springs were a gathering place of healing and restoration for the local natives and recognized as 'common ground' - a place where tribes would put aside their weapons and their differences. In these times, this seems to me like the perfect location for an Adventure. Visiting Buckhorn I was intoxicated by the place. It is far more than I'd hoped for. Owned and run by the wonderful Sargent family, it has been a labor of love for them for many years.
Owner/Operator Bruce Sargent is responsible for much of the historic restoration and recent building work - all top quality. His wife and co-owner Leslie is the chef, with her own incredible cookbook. All meals are locally sourced, seasonal and organic, with much coming from their own splendid garden. Their son Quinn, head groundskeeper, will give us a guided nature hike. Make sure to bring your hiking boots!
We're planning a romping concert performance in the Dodecagon - Bruce's architectural piece de resistance - with Drew and other guests. This is a magic venue and I look forward very much to making music there. We'll also have a musical campfire gathering. I shall have my new acoustic guitar, current love of my life, for an evening of song and story under the stars. And I'm envisioning at least one music play shop, going deep into some of the older BROTHER tunes, lyrics and stories. We shall see where that leads us.
Our own DidgreriDrew will be holding an in-depth digeridoo workshop, talking at length about his ancient and powerful instrument and teaching those that are keen how to play. Step back in time with us. Way back.
Another mate, Justen Bear, will also be joining us. Justen has practiced and taught the primal arts for the last twenty years. He'll be demonstrating and teaching primitive fire making. A crafter of fine native bows, Justen will have a selection on hand for anyone who'd like to try their hand. He also plans to bring along several of his hand-crafted native drums - all works of art - for everyone to check out and play over the weekend.

Looking back on the legacy that is BROTHER, Angus muses, "It's been a long and colorful journey, including a good number of long dark nights. For some time, I've been thinking of hosting retreats as a way to make sense of my relationship to BROTHER - the story and the songs, and where I am at this time in my life."
