your words ...
‘What a magnificent work! I
don't think you could have picked a more perfect set list. As I sit
and listen to the magic being laid out before me, I become keenly
aware of the very reasons I fell in love with BROTHER. The
evolution of each work is breathtaking and worthy of hearing over
and over and over again. I look forward to hearing the music from
the next thirteen years!’...

the compilation cd
now shipping

Angus muses ... it's been a long time coming. over 13 years actually.
many of you have asked us about it over the years. and with dalbo's return
we soon began talking amongst ourselves about the idea of a compilation ...
songs from the early years. especially with many titles from the back
catalogue now out of print we felt like the time was right to acknowledge
the path we took to get where we are. and those who were a part of those
times. but how to choose the tracks? finally
we determined to let you decide. the directive? pick your favourite three
tracks and let us know why. and you did.
then began quite a task. jim ... master of the engine room ... did the counting
for us then passed on the words. what a read. a long read. touching,
fascinating, illuminating. as i wrote in a road journal entry, once you
write a song you tend to move on from it emotionally. so it's been very humbling to read about their impact on others. powerful. and inspiring. it
also had us listening to those tracks for the first time in a long while and
often being pleasantly surprised. more than once dalbo was heard to mutter,
'this really rocks'. we also decided to write down some of our recollections
of those times. what was happening, what we were going thru. that process
too has been a trip, looking at the past from here and putting us in a good
place to
make it all up again this year. at some point we decided we had to include
urban cave too and make the new album a complete representation of all the
bands and all the sounds before dalbo's return in 2004.
so it's your words. and it's our words. and the artwork, presented in poster
form. nice one jeff. real bloody nice mate. 19 songs. and a remake, with
English rascal dave dale ('your backyard' producer) of the first recorded
BROTHER track.
as I write I'm reflecting on how powerful this process is, becoming a real
focusing point for us all in this time. a good way to begin the year. |
